Newcastle have recalled defender James Tavernier from his loan spell at MK Dons as Alan Pardew is left with somewhat of a defensive crisis.

The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder tweeted earlier today that James Perch, standing in for injured captain Fabricio Coloccini, was struggling ahead of Friday’s game against Swansea with a knock.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Gateshead and linked up with League One MK Dons in the January transfer window with a 24-hour recall clause in the agreement.

Tavernier told the club’s website: “It was another loan spell which allowed me to go out and play games, which is what I need, and I really enjoyed it.

“A knee injury stopped me from playing a few games but I still enjoyed it and hopefully they can go on and get promotion.

“It’s great being called back. And now I might be involved in the last few games of the season for Newcastle, which is exciting. Hopefully that can happen but we’ll wait and see.”
