Perch Latest NUFC Player To Be Abused
James Perch has become the latest Newcastle player to be the subject of abuse on Twitter.
In the aftermath of his excellent performance against Suarez/Liverpool somebody tweeted, “I want to punch perch in his n***** head!”.
The tweet ended by saying the Newcastle defender was a “c***”.
This follows on from Demba Ba being racially abused by a mackem who received a suspended custodial sentence, the abuse coming as a result of ‘arguing with Newcastle fans on Twitter’.
I believe the situation will only get worse and even with instances such as that Welsh knacker getting a 56 day prison sentence for abuse related to Fabrice Muamba, it is doubtful whether that will have much effect.
People who haven’t used Twitter must be wondering why anybody bothers with it and certainly I fail to understand why players are bothering to put themselves in a position of being abused by having Twitter accounts.
The case of Danny Simpson highlights that you are only a dodgy game away from being abused by the lunatic fringe of your own fanbase and mackem infiltrators, such is the anonymous nature of social media – unless people break the law and the Police are involved.
The type of language commonly used on Twitter is embarrassing much of the time anyway and for a lot of people who write as they speak, adding ‘n*****’ is literally a 2 second task.
The social media is simply mirroring society and just a reminder of every knacker you have ever met in the pub or at the match.
