NUFC Transfer Target Has His Shooting Boots On
Attacking midfielders who can score goals are worth their weight in gold and this player has scored 7 goals in only 14 appearances from midfield since January.
The player in question, Gylfi Sigurdsson, has weighed in with 54 shots in those 14 appearances for Swansea and when Newcastle played at the Liberty in early April, Sigurdsson looked the only real goal threat.
The Icelandic midfielder is a powerful 6ft 1 and in our Championship season (2009/10) knocked in 21 goals from midfield for Reading, a profile that led to German side Hoffenheim paying around £7m for the then 20year old.
Last season he was voted player of the year by the Hoffenheim fans and this despite only starting 13 matches, he fell out of favour early this season and ended up on loan at Swansea in January.
I must admit he’s been well under my radar and it looks like a similar story elsewhere but he loooks a cracking prospect who has already scored a lot of goals from midfield.
I wonder how many boxes he has ticked for Graham Carr and Alan Pardew?
