Newcastle v Stoke Player Ratings

We don’t carry player ratings as part of our match report but after putting it to the editorial team I was officially appointed as The Mag jury and here are my marks (out of 10) for the Stoke match;

Krul (7)
Simpson (7)
Coloccini (8)
Williamson (7)
Santon (8)
Gutierrez (8)
Tiote (9)
Cabaye (9)
Ben Arfa (8)
Ba (7)
Cissé (8)

Gosling (For Simpson 82mins)
Perch (7) (For Cabaye 60mins)
Ameobi (7) (For Cisse 69 mins)

Newcastle really went to toon/town today as once Cabaye nodded United in front there was only going to be one winner.

Krul and his defence hardly had to break sweat as they comfortably snuffed out the likes of Peter Crouch, while the midfield dominated and the Stoke defence were chasing shadows much of the time.

Santon was my pick of the defence as he did everything he had to at the back but on top of that his surging runs up front cause all kinds of problems for the opposition as they are already havinng to deal with the threat of the likes of Ben Arfa, Ba and Cisse.

Yohan Cabaye was only on the pitch for an hour before getting a knock on his ankle, in that time though he pulled the strings and scored two, also adding a wonderful assist for Cisse.

Of the front three Ben Arfa marginally took the honours as he teased and tormented the visitors, a sublime drop of the shoulder to set up the first goal was my personal highlight.

Overall a great team performance but on balance Yohan Cabaye can be my only choice, what do you think?
