Newcastle United v Liverpool Player Ratings

We don’t carry player ratings as part of our match report but after putting it to the editorial team I was officially appointed as The Mag jury and here are my marks (out of 10) for the Liverpool match;

Krul (8)
Simpson (8)
Perch (9)
Williamson (8)
Gutierrez (8)
Tiote (10)
Cabaye (9)
Guthrie (8)
Ben Arfa (9)
Ba (8)
Cissé (9)

Gosling (7) (For Guthrie 65mins)
Shola (7) (For Cissé 74mins)
Santon (For Ben Arfa 79 mins)

Krul was excellent as always, apart from a mix-up similar to the one at the Hawthorns last week, this time though he/we got away with it.

In defence, Simpson and Jonas put in hard working shifts but Williamson and Perch took the honours with gutsy performances.

Tiote came back into the team and immediately was right up to the level of performance when we stuffed Man.U., Guthrie played his part, while Cabaye was given a huge task of pressurising Liverpool high up the pitch whilst still then getting back to defend at our end. The formation also then gave him the opportunity to display his creativity and immaculate passing.

Up front all three were excellent, working up and down the pitch but so so dangerous when we had possession. Demba Ba is an absolute star wherever he plays while Cissé is real centre forward of quality with the goals to prove it. As for Ben Arfa I’m so pleased for him, he’s come through difficult times and his is a talent that cannot be allowed to leave St.James’ Park.

Man of the match? So many candidates throughout the team but Tiote eased straight back in and was untouchable. It would be madness to consider selling him, players like Tiote can give us many more performances like the Liverpool one.

What do you think?
