Newcastle United To Swoop For The Next Demba Ba?
Newcastle United’s emphasis in recent transfer windows has almost exclusively been focussed on foreign shores, especially France.
Maybe the best signing of all though was picking up Demba Ba on a ‘free’ as West Ham freefalled into the Championship. A modern day football reality, the strong preying on the weak as Newcastle picked up their best player for nothing because the Hammers had fallen out of the only place that matters.
So what about this season’s relegation candidates, for those who end up dropping it would seem certain that unless it is QPR there won’t even be a choice of whether they even try and hang onto their best & highest earning players.
Should Newcastle be looking though to take advantage of the three who go the distance?
Blackburn – They looked abysmal against Liverpool with only Yakubu and Hoilett having any discernible quality, the ‘Yak’ would maybe not be a bad option as third choice striker but wages would rule him out and the player might not be keen. Hoilett looks a no-brainer if we could attract him, out of contract and more importantly looks pacey and direct, rumours abound though that Bayern Munich have him lined up.
Wolves – Are bottom of the pile and look terrible, with maybe Fletcher and Doyle looking ok prospects for our third choice striker, as with Yakubu they carry more goal threat than Shola or Leon Best. Matt Jarvis always looks tricky but little end product but maybe with better players around him?
QPR – A poor third behind Swansea and Norwich of the promoted teams. A lot of money invested on even bigger egos. A player I’ve always thought looked decent, for both Manchester City and the mackems, was Onuoha who could appeal as someone who can play at full-back and in the middle of the defence. Or what about that lad we hear little about these days….Joey Barton!
Bolton – Met a family of Bolton season ticket holders on holiday last summer and they all raved about Mark Davies who they rated as easily their most talented player. Is now established in first team and gave a decent show in our last match but would have to accept a place behind the likes of Tiote and Cabaye which Guthrie seemingly isn’t willing to do.
Wigan – A very fragile team but one with an excellent goalkeeper in Al Habsi. If Forster decides to leave permanently then we could do a lot worse than trying to attract the Wigan keeper to fight it out with Krul, Al Habsi having to perform miracles with some of the dopes in front of him.
Any other contenders?
