Newcastle United – A TV ‘Fixture’

Box Office!

The Newcastle United detractors often claim that our fans are deluded and we are only a small club blah blah blah.

We point out our great history and the trophies won (in the past!), as well as the fantastic support – third highest in the country, way ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs and Manchester City.

If you need any further proof to wave in the faces of those who don’t see through black & white eyes, then point them towards the most money-driven aspect of modern day football – SKY (and ESPN) TV.

The Swansea match on Friday will complete an incredible six live TV matches in a row!

The Manchester City home match on Sunday 6th May has just been confirmed as a 1.30pm televised kick-off, this makes it eighteen Premier League matches live on either SKY or ESPN, twenty matches in total if you include the Scunthorpe and Brighton away cup matches.

In contrast, sunderland have seen seven of their Premier league matches rescheduled for TV.

SKY/ESPN are the most hard nosed business driven vultures and I don’t think they could spell ‘sentiment’ never mind feel it, their motive every time is making money. If you aren’t ‘box office’ then they aren’t interested and will only feature your club as many times as they have to.

Newcastle United are only regularly featured because people are interested and more importantly, interested enough to spend money to watch them.

One day we can dream that we’ll be as much of a hit in terms of trophies as we are to the football viewing public.
