On Saturday we profiled a Dutch striker who Newcastle are reported to be interested in, going by the short and sweet name of Bas Dost (see below).

At the weekend he scored a fourteen minute hat-trick (His goals start at 2.15 on the video) to single-handedly win the match after his team Heerenveen had been two down.

Further reports from Holland say that Graham Carr has been watching the 22 year old striker who has now scored 24 goals in his last 13 matches!

There will always be transfer speculation at Newcastle United and with never ending speculation about Demba Ba’s alleged release clause, strikers are repeatedly being linked with NUFC.

I’m confident that Demba is going nowhere but I think it is essential that Newcastle bring in at least one extra striker as main support to Ba and Cisse.

In an ideal world you want to find a forward that will complement what we already have and bring something else to the party – step forward Bas Dost of Dutch side Heerenveen.

The 22 year old forward has been scoring goals for fun (38 in 60 matches for his club side) and though the Dutch league is a step down, have a look at this excellent goal action compilation.

Dost is 6ft 5 but still very mobile and on this evidence alone would cure our phobia of scoring from corners!

The confident way he strikes the ball reminds me very much of Alan Shearer, plus look at his clever movement in the box to lose his marker, that also brings to mind my all time favourite black & white number nine.

    looks a big lumbering lump

  • Brontosaurus

Highest scorer in the Eredivisie this season by 5 goals (4 matches still to go) for a 6th place club, total 41 goals in 62 games, 22 years old. Seems good, but with only 6 assists he’s not going to partner well with Ba or Cisse.

Wouldn’t be signing the plank just on the strength of this evidence, but as long as we don’t sign anybody from the Herenveen defence…

  • GeordieBen

Love the no frills finish for the first.
True, he mightn’t have the greatest of records when it comes to assists, but could just be Heerenveen’s game plan, as in “pass the ball to Bost, let him shoot”.
For a 22 year old striker his assists stats aren’t bad, just slightly overshadowed by the goals.
I say sign him up, we missed a trick when we played these and they had a young Huntelaar in their squad!

  • jamie

i could see him at stoke. Or bolton. Maybe west ham if they get up.

  • AnyO’Brien

Might be a sign………look behind the goal at 2:45……is that the Tyne Bridge!

  • Leehancox42

Not impressed by this can’t see how he would better our team. Fits the bill for Stoke though!
