Jackie Milburn Statue Back In Rightful Place At St.James’ Park

Great to see that at long last the statue of Jackie Milburn has been returned to its rightful place outside St.James’ Park.

Not before time, the Jackie Milburn statue has now been relocated to the south east corner of the ground outside the Gallowgate End, on the corner opposite the Strawberry pub.

Previously located on Northumberland Street, this particular Wor Jackie statue was paid for with £35,000 the public raised via an Evening Chronicle led appeal.

Having bizarrely been positioned a few hundred yards away from St.James’ Park on the road junction as you head up from the Redheugh Bridge, Jackie Milburn has now come home.

The name of Milburn is synonymous with Newcastle United and many a bar room argument is still to be settled,  who was best – Milburn or Shearer?

It will never be definitively answered but we know that both were the best of their generation and you can’t do any more than that.
