Hatem Ben Arfa, A Class Apart

We don’t carry player ratings as part of our match report but after putting it to the editorial team I was officially appointed as The Mag jury and here are my marks (out of 10) for the Bolton match;

Krul (8)
Simpson (6)
Coloccini (7)
Williamson (6)
Santon (7)
Gutierrez (7)
Perch (6)
Cabaye (7)
Ben Arfa (9)
Ba (6)
Cissé (8)

Ferguson (7) (For Perch 45mins)
Ryan Taylor (For Ben Arfa 85mins)
Shola (7) (For Ba 64 mins)

Not a classic match but very much a classic goal and for that alone Ben Arfa would deserve a 9 out of 10, some would argue a perfect 10.

A tired looking United didn’t have any real spark until Hatem’s intervention, although Cissé was the exception and did look lively throughout, unlike the out of sorts Demba Ba.

With Tiote missing, James Perch showed that he can do a job in midfield but it a very limited one, looking clearly like a defender asked to play somewhere that isn’t in his comfort zone.

In contrast, Coloccini slipped back in with the minimum of fuss and along with Tim Krul were the star performers at the back, although Santon had a tidy game and did well going forward.

I think it is very clever management by Alan Pardew to regularly bring Ben Arfa off with a few minutes left after he has done the business, getting his own personal ovation from the supporters is something that I’m sure helps tie Hatem to our beloved club just a little bit more each time.
