Alan Pardew – ‘Newcastle Going All Out For Third’

Speaking at the pre-match press conference in advance of the trip to Wigan, Alan Pardew looks like a man whose team has won six on the bounce and who are now real contenders.

Like me he had watched the Europa League semi-finals and was raving about it being a, “fantastic competition”, which I think it is, apart from where the English teams are concerned!

The standard of football shown in the Atletico Bilbao v Sporting Lisbon & Atletico Madrid v Valencia was exceptional, plus the atmospheres were class. I would hope and I’m sure, that if we were competing in the Europa League we’d give it our best shot, it certainly seems to enthuse our manager. It’s a competition we could have a real go at with our set of players.

With Europa achieved as a minimum, Alan Pardew moved on to talk about that with the possibility of third place, Newcastle will be going all out to try and achieve that, with the team going to Wigan with only one intention and that is to win.

As the manager also rightly points out, it is Newcastle who are going into these final matches with all of the momentum.

Think of it like the 4 x 400m replay in the Olympics, on the last leg Newcastle are coming up on the shoulder of the opposition at the final bend.

We have the momentum, now we just have to finish that race.
