A Shift In Power From Merseyside To Tyneside?
In the build-up to the pivotal Newcastle United v Liverpool match, the magazine side of our operation interviewed Gareth Roberts of Liverpool fans magazine ‘Well Red’ and asked a number of questions.
One of the most popular ones when we interview opposition fans is always which eleven players would you choose if combining the two squads.
From the Reds’ perspective we got the following line-up;
Reina;
Johnson, Skrtel, Coloccini, Enrique;
Ben Arfa, Gerrard, Cabaye, Suarez;
Cisse, Ba
I don’t think it was too biased from a Liverpool fan but I don’t think you would find too many neutrals these days choosing Gerrard over Tiote, espcially after their respective performances at St.James’ Park.
I think there’s an argument for a fit again Steven Taylor over Skrtel and Tim Krul is showing form to match any keeper in the Premier League, including Reina.
Maybe though a possible longer term shift in the balance of power, from Merseyside to Tyneside, can best be summed up by the fading Steven Gerrard meeting more than his match in the powerhouse that is Cheick Tiote.
The future could be bright in black & white.
