It is always interesting after a match, in the cold light of day, to see if the statistics match up to what we saw with our own eyes.

What came out of of the West Brom match according to BBC Statistics is the following;

Possession                    NUFC 58%     West Brom 42%

Total Shots                   NUFC 10         West Brom 14

Shots On Target           NUFC  7        West Brom 6

Corners                          NUFC 4            West Brom 10

A figure of 58% possession is a big marker when you are the away team, even allowing for the fact the home side played out the final stages with only ten men after Morrison’s injury. I would guess it has been some time since we beat that dominance with the match against the mackems weighing in with 57% the only recent occasion when we have got close.

West Brom had more corners and more ‘shots’ overall but this is where you have to match up the stats with the naked eye because I can hardly remember Krul making a save as even the shots ‘on target’ tended to be blocked by defenders.

Newcastle’s shots/chances tended to be well worked moves leading to quick passing around the box, a very welcome sight for these eyes after a bit too much reliance on the long ball recently.

Bearing in mind the home side beat Chelsea 1-0 recently and that West Brom are now rated as solid decent Premier League team, the statistics AND my eyes tell me we could have some exciting times ahead.
