West Brom v Newcastle United Player Ratings

We don’t carry player ratings as part of our match report but after putting it to the editorial team I have officially been appointed as The Mag jury and here are my marks (out of 10) for the West Brom match;

Krul (7)
Simpson (8)
Coloccini (8)
Williamson (7)
Gutierrez (8)
Ben Arfa (9)
Perch (8)
Cabaye (8)
Guthrie (6)
Ba (8)
Cissé (9)

(For Coloccini 46mins) Santon (7)
(For  Ben Arfa 75mins) Shola
(For Cissé 79 mins) Ferguson

An excellent display of attacking football in the first half and confident defending, the second half seeing a predictable West Brom charge that United on the whole repelled quite comfortably, with the one obvious exception.

For the mix up I’ve docked both Krul and Williamson a point each, though I have a sneaking suspicion that maybe it should just have been two points off Williamson!

Maybe some will see Guthrie’s mark as harsh but I find it hard to remember him creating much going forward and his workrate and closing down skills aren’t anywhere near the standard of players such as Cabaye and Jonas. Both Ba and Cissé were magnificent in tracking back as well as doing it up top.

Man of the match? A toss up between  Cissé and Ben Arfa. If the Senegalese hitman had put that chance away for his hat-trick then it would have been a no-brainer but hatem just edges it.

What do you think?
