Video Classic NUFC Draws v sunderland

It is never pleasant dropping points/not winning dropping points against the mackems but just as happened yesterday, circumstances sometimes mean you still come out of the games as moral victors despite only drawing.

Today we delve into The Mag’s YouTube channel vaults to bring you a two for one special that celebrate days gone by when the team showing the character to grab a draw was almost as good as a win.

The first match featured is the infamous play-off match at Joker Park in 1990. Two things to watch out for are Burridge’s excellent last gasp penalty save and Hardyman’s cowardly follow up as he tries to put Budgie’s head into the goal instead…they were even at it then!

The second piece of footage takes us to November 1991 when Newcastle were threatening relegation to the old third division and though not as renowned as his free-kick down there, Liam O’Brien comes up with a masterful chip from open play to earn a draw.

The common thing on both videos are the packed Newcastle fans on the away terracing, it just looks totally mad and a real throwback to another era.
