Now Chelsea After NUFC’s Demba Ba?

The silly season has started in earnest and after earlier in the week linking Tiote and Krul with Chelsea, today it is the turn of Demba Ba and Tiote for the press to try and unsettle.

This is what the Mail Online have ‘reported’:

Abramovich targets Newcastle striker Ba for a new-look Chelsea

By SPORTSMAIL REPORTER

Chelsea have added Newcastle striker Demba Ba to their list of potential summer targets.

Owner Roman Abramovich wants a forward, winger, midfielder and right back.

Porto striker Hulk and Napoli’s Edinson Cavani are top of the list as Chelsea consider replacing Didier Drogba, 34, while Shakhtar Donetsk’s Willian is wanted to replace Florent Malouda, 31.

Newcastle, who also expect a Chelsea bid for Cheick Tiote, are hopeful they can keep Ba, 26, but accept they are vulnerable to substantial offers.

I know we might say every season, or every summer (and January!) in the case of the transfer market, but this summer will give big pointers as to whether there is any ambition in the short to medium-term.

The club made over £32m in the last financial year thanks mainly to the Carroll sale and that money has gone into ‘club reserves’.

There should be no pressure on Alan Pardew to sell any player he doesn’t want to leave and the achilles heel of whatever is happening at St.James’ Park, is that the manager clearly has not got the final say on players in and out.
