Newcastle United v Norwich – Stat Attack
It is always interesting after a match, in the cold light of day, to see if the statistics match up to what we saw with our own eyes.
What came out of of the Norwich match according to BBC Sport Website is the following;
Possession NUFC 51% Norwich 49%
Total Shots NUFC 15 Norwich 12
Shots On Target NUFC 10 Norwich 5
Corners NUFC 4 Norwich 5
I must admit that I’m surprised that United edged possession as my eyes told me they seemed to have the ball a lot without really getting anywhere a lot of the time.
The stats do tell the story of a pretty even match with a similar number of shots and corners but maybe the shots on target gets to the bottom of what we watched.
With ten shots on target to Norwich’s five that confirms what my eyes told me, a tight match but with United having at least twice as many good chances.
A fair score to me would maybe have been 2-1 to Newcastle but it shows how essential a class keeper is because when Krul was needed he made a couple of outstanding saves.
