Good News As Chelsea Fixture List Piles Up

Newcastle’s trip to Stamford Bridge, originally due to be played on the Saturday of FA Cup Semi-Final weekend, has been rearranged to Wednesday 2 May.

This comes after Chelsea successfully made it through to the Semi-Final of the cup where they will face Spurs at Wembley.

If Chelsea reached the semi-finals of the Champions League they will have played 19 games in 65 days – which is a lot to ask of any side in the end-of-season run.

The news will be a welcome break for Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, the Magpies will have two weeks between their key fixtures at home against Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City, in his side’s bid for European football.

Maybe food for though thinking ahead to next season if Newcastle United end up competing in the Europa League, with all the extra challenges that will throw up. Some serious work likely to be needed in terms of building up the squad if Newcastle do qualify for Europe AND are serious about competing.
