In the aftermath of the brilliant win at the Hawthorns, Alan Pardew predictably confirmed that his captain is likely to miss the next few matches.

As Coloccini struggled to see out the firs-half it was no surprise to see James Perch moved inside and Santon come on for the second period.

As well as missing one of our very best performers it will be interesting to see who gets the captain’s armband for the match against the (eight points behind) scousers.

My choice would be Yohan Cabaye who is always at the heart of the action and never lets us down in terms of effort and showing by example.

Williamson and Perch did ok against a largely toothless Baggies side in the second-half, apart from the obvious exception of the rush of blood to Williamson’s head for their consolation effort.

I confidently predict Perch and Williamson to start at centre-back against Liverpool….with Taylor and Coloccini missing the alternatives are thin on the ground!
