Alan Pardew – ‘Demba Ba Is Going Nowhere’
You can never be complacent where Newcastle United are concerned but I must admit to getting more confident by the day that the club has every chance of keeping the quality players at St.James’ Park.
I get the feeling that the spirit and togetherness is very much there in the squad and they respect and trust the manager. The new contracts for Krul and Coloccini are massive lifts for everyone, even while acknowledging that at least in part the longer contracts give NUFC more bargaining power over any potential transfer fee in the future.
The Ba/Cissé partnership is a ‘work in progress’, and has affected Demba Ba to some extent in the short-term, but that for me hasn’t changed his ‘player of the season so far’ status. Ba in fact is one player who has regularly made clear he wants to stay and this is what Alan Pardew had to say when asked once again about Ba’s future;
He has got a great rapport with the fans – they love him to bits and we are hoping that’s going to be a big enough pull for him to stay and prolong his career here.
I think it’s important for Demba that we get European football. When you get to this level, that’s what you are going to find, players want to play in Europe”.
There are little things like Tim Krul going to watch the reserves against the mackems and some of their ‘banter’ on Twitter (sorry for anybody who is now lost off! – basically if you ‘follow’ the players you often see good-humoured chat passing between them.
Any places we can finish above seventh this season will put down big markers for Newcastle United’s potential, hold on to these players and add 2 or 3 more inspirational signings and we could really mean business.
That is so long as the club doesn’t implode when Ashley insists on Graham Carr and Alan Pardew doing a bit overtime walking around Toon wearing sandwich boards promoting S***** D*****…..
