NUFC – Character Important As Ability?

Is Character as important as Ability?

As you are very much aware, Newcastle have won two matches in the past week. Both could have easily been lost but they weren’t.

Instead they have resulted in the team picking up six very important points. So how did we do it?  Was it simply down to the outstanding ability of our team?

Well I don’t believe there can be anyone out there who would use the words ‘outstanding ability’ and Wednesday’s performance at Blackburn in the same sentence but we won the match.

Likewise even our manager talked of Villa being the better side at half time – but we won the match.

Don’t get me wrong, we have individuals who obviously do have outstanding ability, which can and has won us matches, but it seems to me that it’s the character of the team that’s its most important asset.

This started a couple of seasons ago in the Championship under Hughton, carried on in our first year back, and now under Pardew it has reached new heights .

Granted, if you want to win the Champions League then you need a team of Xavis and Messis.

If though your current aspirations are to finish in the top six of the Premier League, then I will take the current squad of strong backboned players  before those petulant Twittering clowns; Barton, N’Zogbia and Ireland any day of the week.
