Tonight saw Newcastle United bow out of the FA Youth Cup despite leading twice against Blackburn.

Just over 2,000 saw Newcastle go in front in both the first and second-half only for the visitors to hit back each time.

Extra time brought no further goal action and penalties brought only heartache as United crashed out.

Blackburn scored their first three penalties as Newcastle failed with all of theirs (must have ┬áprepared for this match watching old first team footage…).

So near and yet so far but a big pat on the back to the lads for getting to within shouting distance of the semi-final and these bonus appearances playing at St.James’ Park can only be of benefit to their ongoing development.

Now they can concentrate on winning their league…
