NUFC v sunderland – Kids Fight Back

Newcastle United’s kids headed into a very busy period starting today with an away derby match against the mackems.

As well as progressing in the FA Youth Cup,before kick-off the Under 18s stood four points clear at the top with sunderland rock bottom.

After half an hour though United were two down to their local rivals only for Dennis Knight to pull one back from the penalty spot. Things looked bleak when Knight was given his marching orders with twenty minutes left, only for Lewis Gibbons to grab an unlikely equaliser for ten man Newcastle.

So honours even with a 2-2 draw but a moral victory after going two down and then a man down.

On the FA Youth Cup front, the draw has just been made for the semi-finals.

If United beat Blackburn at St.James’ Park on Monday 27th February (kick-off 7pm) they will then ngo into a two-legged semi against Fulham or Burnley.

The first leg would be at home and played sometime before Saturday 17th March and the away one before Saturday 31st March.
