It’s Official – NUFC Going For Europe

I can understand why Alan Pardew has been so reticent over the past weeks and months to even hint that he thinks Newcastle United have even a hint of a chance of Europe.

Everything is taken so critically by the press that as in many walks of life, the best advice is to keep your mouth shut.

A bit like this week when in answer to press questions, Alan Pardew said he wasn’t interested in England job and happy at Newcastle etc etc.

Some journalists then report this in terms of ‘who does Alan Pardew think he is putting himself in the frame for the England job’? The answer of course is ‘because some of your mates in the press bloody asked him the question’!

Anyway, with even the biggest NUFC pessimists accepting we won’t achieve relegation this time, Alan Pardew does seem to have loosened up and sent out a rallying cry for the run-in.

The manager had this to say today to the Evening Chronicle;

“That’s where we want to be (Europe). That is what football is all about.

We want to be in contention for as many prizes as we can get.

Unfortunately we’re out the cups, but we are in a great position in the league”.

The reality is of course that from the second league match onwards, Newcastle United have never been lower than seventh in the table, quite remarkable consistency with a relatively small squad of first teamers.

What have we all got to lose by saying we (manager, players,fans) are all pushing together for the European dream?

We aren’t saying we have a ‘right‘ to Europe but what we do have is the right to dream.
