How Many Ba & Cissé Goals For 4th?

Surely there will never be a greater opportunity for Newcastle United to make such an unexpected leap forward as the position they find themselves in now.

One point off fourth and the weekend cup matches simply reinforcing the fact that Chelsea and Arsenal are in some disarray, with Liverpool no better.

So the opportunity could well be there but just as (or more) importantly is whether Newcastle United are capable of taking it.

Before the arrival of Papiss Cissé I would have said we were really up against it as having such a huge burden on one player to score the goals would surely prove too much.

Two prolific strikers gives us a chance and of course some insurance if either of them is injured. Even the fact that Senegal’s caretaker managers have left Ba out of their upcoming friendly with South Africa on February 29th is music to my ears. Plus at least team mate Papiss Cissé will have an extra day’s recovery time with the mackem match on the Sunday.

Obviously there are all kinds of factors influencing football matches but so long as the defending doesn’t become an ongoing nightmare, we should have a platform with Tiote and Cabaye returning to create chances and provide a more solid base. Scoring goals though is the bottom line for any success so what do we need?

The two strikers give us a chance to take this great opportunity that has opened up, between them they have made 20 starts for Newcastle United this season and 3 substitute appearances. With 20 starts they have given United 17 goals, including of course the one Papiss scored against Villa.

So potentially they can make another 26 appearances between them this season but how many goals do we need from them?

I believe 15 goals would give Newcastle United fifth or sixth place, what would it take though to make that quantum leap into fourth?

Twenty goals from the strike pair could well guarantee that, it is a big ask but I think we have potentially the most exciting strikeforce in the Premier League.
