Coloccini Set To Sign New Contract?
The transfer window closed without any major surprises in or out, this being the case not just at St.James’ Park but pretty much everywhere else.
However, there could be movement at Newcastle United in the next few days if The Journal have got their facts right.
They claim that Fabricio Coloccini’s agent is due to fly into Toon in the next few days to help put the finishing touches to a new five and a half year deal.
For most supporters, Coloccini has become an indispensable part of the first eleven and the thought of him getting picked off by the cockney or scouse scavengers would really stick in the throat.
If a five and a half year deal was a reality then it would take our captain up to the 35 year old mark which I suppose is the trade-off to getting him to commit himself to United.
I suppose for any club the  ideal would be having him maybe signing up to the age of 33 or 34 at a push but the good thing about a player of Colo’s quality is that the first five yards are in his head.
Let’s hope the deal can be done as surely everybody associated with Newcastle United will be desperate not to see him heading into summer with only 12 months remaining on his contract.
