Cissé & Ba For Long-Term At NUFC

Even when Newcastle United at last signed the long awaited Number 9, the first thing many journalists (and some Newcastle fans said!) wrote was that Papiss Cissé’s arrival surely meant Demba Ba would then be on his way.

Despite Demba Ba pouring scorn on the transfer speculation and laughing about it since his return, we’ll just have to accept that the media have their agenda but there is no need for us, the supporters, to help fuel that. Ironically, the more goals Ba scores (currently 18 goals in 16 starts!) between now and May, the bigger the speculation will be that he’ll be off to another club!

On balance I’m pretty happy for him to keep knocking them in!

Since he touched down on Tyneside, Cissé’ has spoken really well both before and after his cracking debut goal, this week he talked about about one of the biggest factors in helping him to decide his future was at St.james’ park, Demba Ba!

“Demba painted a really positive picture of Newcastle United, from the stadium and the training facilities to the coach and the vibe around the club. He also spoke about the passion and warmth of the fans, and I have seen that already in my short time here.

Playing alongside Demba will be both a pleasure and source of comfort to me. We know each other well and he can be my big brother in England. I’m so looking forward to playing alongside him for Newcastle. I think our playing styles complement one another. The fact that he is in such great form, scoring goals every week, will help a lot too”.

I honestly think Ba and Cissé can be our forward line for years to come, fitness permitting. I know we have had our fill in the past of badge kissers and mercenaries but maybe it is the real deal this time and you just need to take the way the two players speak so positively about Newcastle at face value.

I just couldn’t buy into this Cissé replacing Ba angle, the fact they have such similar backgrounds – Senegalese but brought up in France, both played in the Bundesliga, play for the same national team, both devout muslims, both score loads of goals!!

Cissé came to play WITH Demba Ba NOT replace him, just read his words and believe.
