Ba and Cissé Inspire Jonas

I think Jonas Gutierrez will benefit by far the most from having a quality partnership of Ba and Cissé up front.

All players should find improvement when the quality around them improves but I do think for Jonas he is more than anybody a team player. He can go past people and should try to a lot more but at heart his game is all about working the ball as part of a team.

What these two strikers will also give the team is movement, having strikers making clever runs and working the channels makes the job of midfielders/wingers so much easier.

A static player like you get when Shola and/or Best play, is one who is harder to find and then in both their cases but especially Shola’s, more often than not lose their ball partly down to poor control but most of the time because they are sitting ducks for predatory defenders.

Any defender will tell you that the thing they hate the most  is a player constantly giving them problems and not a moment’s peace, when you add in ability and goalscoring you are talking about some package.

Sometimes you need an outside view to remind you of the value of those closer to home and this is what Alaxc McLeish had to say about Jonas after Saturday’s match;

“Newcastle are an example to everybody with their workrate and the player who exemplifies this more than any other is Gutrierrez. When they (Newcastle) don’t have the ball he is back defending in front of his back four, then next thing when they have possession he is running down the line taking on the full-back”.

Jonas Gutierrez has been a great team player for Newcastle United, now he may well get the opportunity to be part of a great Newcastle United team.
