Tiote – Not Cheicking Out Of Africa Yet

Cheick Tiote’s Ivory Coasters made sure of their place in the quarter-finals of the African Cup Of Nations when they beat Burkina Faso 2-0 last night.

Tiote’s final group stage game against Angola takes place on Monday with their quarter-final tie next Friday (3rd February).

Hopefully we won’t shift the Newcastle United curse onto Cheick and his team mates as the Geordie support transfers from our Senegal strikeforce.

Tiote is now pretty much there for the duration regardless so I don’t see any conflict in hoping his country go on to win the whole thing and Cheick Tiote comes back a very happy bunny.

As for our downhearted Senegal forwards, let’s hope they take out their frustrations on the Premier League, possibly starting with Blackburn….

Over to Alan Pardew ;

“Blackburn on Wednesday is probably a bit tight but we might try to get them back for that. They are two great players and you want your best players in your team.

We have to understand the federation of Senegal’s wishes and also our own – we will have a conversation as to when and where we can get them back.

I am guessing they’re not too pleased about how it’s gone so that’s something we will have to focus on when they return. On the other hand they are coming back early, so that part of it, I am pleased about”.

Hopefully Newcastle’s relaxed attitude towards their departure to the tournament will now pay dividends with a speedy return.
