Should NUFC Play That Samba Beat?

A player that Newcastle United have been linked with, plus a thousand others, is Christopher Samba of Blackburn.

We looked at this possibility a couple of weeks ago and just couldn’t see it as being on Ashley’s radar.

He is the standout player in Blackburn’s team, which might not be that difficult, and more often than not plays cracking against us. A monster of a centre-back, he is dominant in the air and for our money should be a player Newcastle feel they could potentially attract.

However, as with almost every other established English based players we feel that it just won’t be a possibility…unless there’s a contract clause or the player runs his contract down.

Samba’s wages are reputed to be £60,000 a week, would cost probably around £8m (depending on bidding wars) and is 27 years old.

Leaving out his wages and transfer fee he ticks a lot of Ashley’s boxes and looking at Newcastle’s squad he could be a great asset.

In fact even when Steven Taylor (fingers crossed) makes a full recovery I wouldn’t mind seeing some kind of formation which had Taylor and Samba as your two dominating centre-backs and Coloccini in a kind of ‘Libero’ role between them.

Wishful thinking though because established Premier League players won’t be coming our way, no matter how much it makes sense.
