Run Gabriel Run, Obertan Up Front?
We all know he has disappointed on the right and only produced in patches but I have a cunning plan.
If he was played as a striker then he wouldn’t be so tied to defensive responsibilities and would have more freedom to use his pace in a kind of ‘Run Forrest Run’ style.
I think he has looked most dangerous when he has came inside off the wing and use his pace in the middle of the pitch where he has more room. He hasn’t the trickery to regularly beat his man tied to the touchline but inside he can use that explosive pace more, something even the boo boys couldn’t deny.
Playing as a second striker with license to roam behind Shola and Best (you spin the coin), I think he could get a lot of joy running at central defenders who would find it hard to deal with Gabriel, if he was allowed to open his legs and show his class, if you know what I mean.
It would also hopefully give him a chance to recover a bit of confidence and lose some of the negativity that increasingly has come into his game.
