With the debate raging on whether to bring back standing on the terraces, we transport you back in time to St.James’ Park 1972-style.

Supermac and Jimmy Smith score in front of the all-standing Leazes End terraces and the fans go suitably mental.

Watch out as well for the flattened ‘Popular’ side of the ground, with the ‘new’ stand (otherwise known as the East Stand) under construction at a cost of £420,000(!!).

Any reintroduced terracing in England won’t give us scenes like these again but they could go a long way to bringing back better atmospheres, bigger capacities and cheaper prices.

We bring you this classic action courtesy of The Mag’s YouTube channel.
