NUFC Target Mariappa To Millwall…
Newcastle United’s transfer day intrigue has centred largely around the potential signing of Adrian Mariappa from Watford.
Earlier today Mariappa allegedly turned down a move to Wigan and Alan Pardew confirmed a final final bid had been made from our end, with our manager seemingly making clear that if a move to St.James’ Park didn’t happen now then it would almost certainly never occur.
Alan Pardew; “We have made our last bid now and it’s a final bid so if he doesn’t come today then he probably won’t come to this football club because in the summer we will probably look elsewhere”.
What seems the final twist though has taken place, as Mariappa has actually started in tonight’s Watford match at Millwall, which would almost certainly seem to kill off any chance of a move in this window. As always though, never say never with Newcastle United.
With so little happening in the window and other teams linked with the player, this pursuit of Mariappa has attracted far more attention than it probably deserves. At the end of the day, a deal for a covering defender who would probably be fourth possibly third in the pecking order with everybody fit.
It doesn’t quite beat the Jason Prior one though for the number of column inches written about a player who never had a hope in hell of a deal at Newcastle United.
