NUFC Number 9 Gets German Vote
Was especially heartening to hear the generous words of Freiburg’s sporting director who thanked the player for his contribution and wished him well.
Especially good to hear that the view seems to be that this is a step up in his career for Cissé and so just maybe Newcastle United is once again waking up from another extended doze as a sleeping giant.
Our German mates reported the news of Newcastle’s latest incoming transfer as follows;
‘Papiss Demba Cissé has scored nine goals this season setting up a further two for his teammates, but has seen Freiburg slip to the bottom of the Bundesliga. The striker who broke Tony Yeboah’s record for the most goals scored in a single season by an African player will join up with his international teammate and former 1899 Hoffenheim striker Demba Ba as part of the ‘Toon Army’ under head coach Alan Pardew once the African Cup of Nations comes to an end.
Freiburg’s sporting director Dirk Dufner admitted it was always going to be difficult to retain the services of such a prolific striker. “It was clear to us that it was always going to be difficult to keep a player of Papiss’ quality in Breisgau permanently. We’re thankful and proud that he was a big part of our team for the last two years and that his 37 league goals in 65 matches have contributed to an extended period of success since we won promotion. Everyone at SC Freiburg wants to wish him all the best and share in his happiness at taking the next step in his career”.’
