New No.9 Talks – “Me AND Demba”
Talking to NUFC’s official TV channel, the great news is that our new number 9 Papiss Demba Rodney Cissé had this to say about his international strike partner, “Demba Ba is here so I think he’ll help me. When I was going to join (last summer) and my club refused the offer we spoke about it”.
Hopefully this goes some way to quash any fears that the new Demba was replacing the other Demba, instead of creating potentially the most exciting strike partnership in the Premier League.
When asked about the iconic number 9 shirt Cissé had this to say, “I talked a lot about that with the manager and he made sure that I knew the number nine shirt is a number that’s not a big number…it’s a legendary number for this team! I promise I’ll do what is required of me wearing this number”.
When Yohan Cabaye signed last summer he said one of the main reasons for coming to St.James’ Park was the fans and in a similar vein Papiss said, “I like that the supporters are always there to encourage the team and that really pushed me to want to come here”.
If you get a chance watch the whole interview, I know we’ve heard plenty players say all the right things in the past but as well as the obvious attraction of bigger wages, 26 year old Cissé definitely seems to have the ambition and desire, which when added to his formidable goal record in the last couple of seasons could make for a potent blend.
