Kevin Keegan Made My Wedding Day
I work in the public sector and that work takes me into the homes of the public every day of the week. Accordingly we have to attend courses that tell us how to communicate properly with all the different sections of the community.
On one of these courses recently we were asked to think of a time when we had said something inappropriate and how we felt afterwards. This is what I came up with.
I will take you back to March 3rd 1984. It was the day I was to make my first attempt at the marriage lark. Which of course ultimately failed and I’m now trying again. So, the wedding took place and we were all enjoying the reception. There were around 50 attending if my memory is good. All the speeches had been made and the congratulations cards were being read out.
As this finished my dad stood up and said that a late one had just arrived at the hotel and would I like to read it. I opened the card and there inside were the best wishes and signatures of Kevin Keegan, Peter Beardsley, Chris Waddle, Terry McDermott and the rest of the that squad. I was absolutely delighted and on my wedding day blurted out the immortal line, “Well that’s really made my day”. A sharp fist in the ribs followed.
It turned out that my younger sister had arranged for the card to be sent. As a youngster I used to sell the club’s bingo tickets door to door. When I got a proper job I handed the selling over to her and she managed to get the sales office to arrange for the card.
That story went down quite well at my course, so how did I feel afterwards? Delighted. What is the most NUFC related inappropriate thing you have ever said?
