Ba – ‘Rest Of Season Is About NUFC’
Speaking before he headed home to Geordieland, Demba Ba was asked about our new striker and what his hopes were for the rest of this season.
Demba; “He (Cissé) is a proper goal scorer. It’s a good signing for Newcastle – he’s going to help us achieve something we want to achieve.
The rest of my season is about Newcastle – so we are going to do everything for them and forget about what has happened here (African Nations).
The position is still the same – it hasn’t changed. I’m just going back there to play the rest of the season. Hopefully as well as I played before”.
Whatever clauses are or aren’t in Mr.Ba’s contract, these words don’t exactly strike me as somebody who is looking to pack his bags once he steps onto the tarmac at Newcastle Airport. I know we can ‘never say never’ about anything where Newcastle United are concerned but I’d be amazed if Demba Ba had any intention of moving on this week.
No doubt some fans will worry about Ba referring to this season but I wouldn’t read too much into it, his message is undoubtedly positive about coming back and doing well for Newcastle, so if others want to play semantics with his words then so be it.
Why worry anyway about what could and couldn’t happen in the summer, I just want total focus on the remaining 16 matches.
Newcastle earned 25 points in the first 11 matches and only 11 in the next set of 11 games. Another haul of 25 points in 11 games would give us 61 points with five matches to go and remember 68 points equalled a Champions League spot last season.
Get Colo, Ba, Cissé and Tiote back in the team and watch us go, accepting another 11 points from the next 11 games is unacceptable for everybody who cares about Newcastle United.
