African Cup – NUFC Fans Enjoy!

Yes we want our African trio of Papiss CissĂ©, Cheick Tiote and Demba Ba back double quick in black & white from the African Nations but our message to you…just sit back and relax watching three top quality players who are ours!

Senegal feature in Group A and their three first stage matches will be screened on Eurosport as well as a mixture of highlights and some live matches on ITV4, although details are sketchy on that channel at the moment.

Catch our dynamic strike duo on 21st Jan 9pm against Zambia, 25th Jan 7pm against Equatorial Guinea and their final group match when they play Libya on 29th Jan at 6pm.

Meanwhile Cheick Tiote and the Ivory Coasters kick-off their opening stage matches against Sudan on 22nd Jan at 4pm, followed by Burkina Faso 26th Jan 7pm and rounded off with Angola on 30th Jan 6pm.

In a perfect world I suppose we’d want our strikers both scoring hat-tricks in all 3 matches only to lose every game and return home at the earliest opportunity, along with Cheick Tiote heading back at the same time having avoided further red cards.

Reality is though that even if our players were knocked out at the first stage, the first possible game they could potentially play would be Villa on 5th Feb but more likely Spurs the following weekend.

The final of the African Cup of Nations is 12th Feb and that weekend is FA Cup 5th Round, so in a league sense even if the players were out there until the very last minute it could potentially mean a difference of just the one league match, against Tottenham.

So sit back and enjoy the games as a kind of alternative European Championships without all the nonsense you have to put up with surrounding the England circus.

I’d rather see our three African representatives showcasing their talents and whetting our appetites for their return, a canny African Nations campaign will see them return as happy players and ready for the fight in the Premier League.
