Last night I had the great pleasure (The Germans have a word for it, they call it schadenfreude; taking pleasure in another’s misfortune) of watching the red half of Manchester being knocked out of the Champions League by a well drilled Swiss side who also did them at the Theatre of Dodgy Decisions (TODD).
The look on Alex’s face as he slouched down into his coat after the second goal went in was worth watching on its own. His miserable shower got exactly what they deserved from this year’s competition. They did though manage to beat a Romanian team nobody had ever heard of.
What really annoyed me though were the comments made that it was an embarrassment for Manchester United to play in the Europa League. The arrogance of these comments is why so many despise this club. Do you know what? They don’t even realise it.
Following on from his club’s undignified comments after his side took a lucky point from us at TODD, could they not just of said that it was disappointing to be eliminated from the Champions League but now they would go all out to win the Europa League.
You’d have thought they would want to, what with their rich noisy neighbours being in there too.
Calling it an embarrassment also insults Stoke, Fulham and Birmingham, who I’m sure are all having a lovely time in that competition this year. Along with any other club who has had the good fortune to at least take part.
It might be an embarrassment for Manchester but many of us would love to have a go at it. Here’s hoping that the embarrassment is all heaped on Manchester and they are knocked out of the Europa League by some giants from Liechtenstein… or somewhere.
