NUFC – What’s In a Rumour?

As I’m sure you are all aware, no group of fans like rumours on the same scale as Newcastle supporters.

It’s a shame that trophies aren’t awarded for it!

If you are into conspiracy theories then read on.

One scurrilous theory doing the rounds is that Newcastle United pulled the plug on signing Maiga because they needed that money to spend on a defender due to Steven Taylor’s long-term injury.

The club are adamant that the move fell down due to the player’s medical and we aren’t aware of any reason to doubt that but it won’t stop people talking.

With Mike Ashley allegedly operating a very rigid transfer policy with budgets set which don’t allow for outside factors such as serious injuries, the manager would under that scenario then be faced with very tough decisions.

For my money Alan Pardew is performing minor miracles as he juggles a small squad and so far this season has already had to rely on players like Lovenkrands and Perch who are clearly not up to the standard. While others like Ryan Taylor and Leon  Best should be fringe players at the very edge of the squad at most, not first eleven regulars.

I can’t believe that in private Alan Pardew can be happy with the striking options open to him heading into the second half of the season.

Until both manager and fans see a first eleven striker brought in to help Demba Ba out then doubts will always be there that Pardew is being asked to do an impossible job with little help from above.
