Danny Simpson Interviewed – Game On!

A great start to the season but have the wheels completely come off now with the defeat to Chelsea and the injuries piling up?

I don’t think that’s the case at all, it was always going to be really difficult against Chelsea because they are one of the top top teams. Obviously the injuries have been very hard to take on top of that result but they are part and parcel of the game and it all about how the squad reacts to setbacks like that.

How bad was the decision not to send off Luiz?

It’s tough for referees as they are just human beings, we all know that it should have been a sending off but people make mistakes. We still gave it a good go though and didn’t dwell on that decision going against us or when the injuries hit us.

When I looked at these four matches after Chelsea I thought eight points was the minimum to aim for?

I know what you are saying but we have approached this season in a slightly different way. We have looked at it game by game and it is all about the management putting the plan in place of how to win each match.

In the past football players might have played snooker together, then maybe golf was the footballers’ choice…so is gaming the new golf/snooker for professional footballers like you?

I think it is in a way, some of the older(!) players are still into the golf and a few of the younger lads have tried it this season, including myself, but I wasn’t great!

There is a big group of us who are into playing on Xbox and DS and we meet up away from the football as well, so ii is good socially as well.

I think as well that gaming in a nice warm house is a bit more of an attraction than golf out in the cold and rain.

Your new App game came out last week, how did that come about?

I was approached about doing it over a year ago and for the last twelve months I’ve been really involved in its development, to be honest I jumped at the chance.

I’ve had the chance to put in a lot of input and I think it’s really beneficial to be involved in outside interests and take your mind off the football at times to refresh you.

How would you sell it to Newcastle fans?

I think the main thing is that it’s fun, it’s based on me when I was a ten year old kid kicking a ball around in the street and I think I am still that kid. I think fans will be able to identify with the feel of the game and get a lot of enjoyment playing it.

Is it true in your next App game you’ll be appearing as a centre-half?

(Big laughs) You never know!

Danny Simpson is proud to announce the release of his very own App game ‘Danny Boy’ for the iPhone, iPad and iTouch. ‘Danny Boy’ is available for just 69p from the official iTunes App Store click below for a direct link to the download

“It’s an avatar of me and he’s in the streets, sort of going along the way Mario does – going along the screen and trying to get to the end,” explained Simpson. “But he’s kicking a football and he’s trying to collect as many coins as he can, with various obstacles in his path”.

“There are four stages, with eight levels in each stage, so there are 32 different games to play on it in total. But if everything goes well then there’ll be other stages that people can download.”

“There are burgers, and if you eat burgers they’ll slow you down. But there are also power drinks, which speed you up, and the aim is to get to the end otherwise you lose a life and have to start again.

“You have to try to get as many coins as you can, as quickly as you can, and try to pick up stars along the way to move onto the next level.

“I’ve been involved in it a lot and it’s designed for kids and grown-ups to download and hopefully enjoy. To be involved in my own game was good fun and I was glad I got the opportunity to do it, so hopefully people will see that.”

‘Danny Boy’ will be available for all platforms including Android and Blackberry in early 2012.

Please note, ‘Danny Boy’ app requires the iOS 4.1 or later Software update or later.
