According to Alan Hansen on Match Of The Day, the Newcastle fans didn’t like Alan Pardew when he arrived.
Obviously his extensive research at the time probably stretched to chatting to one of the other couch potatoes at MOTD.
I haven’t spoken to every Toon fan but I think the general reaction to Pardew’s appointment was bemusement but why would we automatically dislike him?
What the fans certainly didn’t like was the treatment of Chris Hughton who had clearly done everything asked of him by Ashley and Llambias; sold key players, promotion at a canter and mid-table respectability.
Like every manager at St.James’ Park, Alan Pardew was always going to be given every chance by the supporters, after all the appointments of Allardyce and Souness didn’t spark riots on the streets, more is the pity! Just nobody ever mention Steve Bruce….
