Tino Says…’What A Town’!
Issue 123 – June 1999
We’ve been lucky over the years to have some great characters at St.James Park and maybe none were a bigger ‘character’ than one Tino Asprilla.
If players are doing their stuff on the pitch then it can be a massive bonus if they are a big hit off it. Tino might have been slightly(!) unorthodox but everything he did was with a smile on his face and more importantly putting a smile on the faces of others. One of the many great interviews we have done over the years was with Tino’s interpreter, read it and smile!
‘The first people we saw were these three girls, one of who shouted ‘Eeh! It’s Tino’! She immediately whipped up her skirt to reveal a G-string and Tino just turned to me and said ‘Vaya Ciudad’ which means ‘What A Town’!’
