Watch All 5 Goals From This Afternoon’s Southampton v Newcastle Under 21s – Video
It was Southampton v Newcastle again on Thursday afternoon at St.Mary’s and while it was another win for the home side, this time there was no humiliation.
In an open game Newcastle took the lead before two goals from Southampton put the home side in charge before United equalised.
Then just before half-time the Saints made it 3-2 and bizarrely that was the end of the scoring, with all five goals coming in that opening 45 minute spell.
Liam Smith opened the scoring with his first goal for the NUFC under 21s and it was Gael Bigirimana who equalised with a simple tap in.
Development Manager Peter Beardsley said;
“Their goals were more mistakes from us than anything else, which happens with young players, but the good thing was that we were on the front foot for the most part.”
When you watch the goals keep an eye out for poor Macauley Gillesphey’s backpass for the home side’s second goal, it was so bad it wouldn’t have been out of place last Saturday…
Newcastle Utd Under 21s: Mitchell, Sterry, Gillesphey (McKinnon 45), Satka , Cameron (Gibson 59), Smith, Bigirimana, Kemen, Olley (Quinn 74), Richardson, Gilliead
