Video Special – Temuri Ketsbaia Signs 17 Years Ago Giving Best Ever Goal Celebration

Seventeen years ago today, Newcastle United signed Temuri Ketsbaia from AEK Athens as an out of contract free transfer.

Making 78 appearances in black & white, Temuri Ketsbaia was a decent player and appeared in both the 1998 and 1999 cup finals.

However, he will always be remembered by most for his mental celebrations when he scored against Bolton (watch below) after coming off the bench and scoring a late winner.

Last year Ketsbaia reminisced about that moment where he lost the plot;

“I did much better things at Newcastle and people only remember that one!

When you score a goal sometimes there is also disappointment and then you express yourself in the wrong way, it was a bad moment for me.

Even when you score a goal, sometimes bad things can happen and I just lost control.

I wasn’t to forget that incident, nobody let’s me forget it. Every time I come to England or certain other countries, everybody remembers this.

My time in British football was my best as a football player; the pitches, atmosphere, everything is at a high level and that is why everybody wants to go and play in England.

It was for me the best time and I also have good friends, starting with Shay (Given), we played together at Newcastle for three years and still keep in touch.

I have many good things to remember, not just kicking the boards.”
