Video Special – Newcastle v Stoke Vintage Action & How To Score From A Corner

GEN0056_Stoke_Video_Newcastle_United_NUFCWe’ve searched The Mag vaults and came up with some vintage action from a past Newcastle v Stoke encounter at St.James’ Park.

Almost forty years ago the teams lined up on October 12th 1974, great crowd footage as well as 39,658 saw a 2-2 draw with goals by Tudor and Keeley.

Interesting as well to see somebody in a black and white shirt score from a corner!

For the record, United have now gone 289 (two hundred and eighty nine!) corners in the Premier League without scoring from one.

Obviously we aren’t doing something right and I can’t see why we don’t do what most teams do and send the ball in at pace into the danger area and our players try and get on the end of it, if it is good enough for Van Persie and Man.U. then why not us?

Anyway, enjoy this Terry Hibbitt/John Tudor combo back in the day (if you just want to see the Tudor goal go to 1min 20).

For 289 corners now read 303!
Great to see the lads back in ’74, I think it was one of the few home games I missed. The crowd reactions to the Stoke goals were interesting; polite applause followed by “you’re gonna get your…….” directed at the handfull of Stoke fans that were (probably) in the middle of the Gallowgate end. Nice to see the late, great, Terry Hibbitt taking the corner, he was a lovely striker of the ball. Sadly missed.
