Strange Case Of Newcastle Interest In Louis Laing
I don’t think it would surprise any Newcastle fans if we discovered Pardew and the gang looking for bargains in the Premier League bins of other clubs this summer, but the potential signing of Louis Laing is a strange one.
The 21 year old 6ft 2 centre-back is out of contract this summer and leaving Sunderland without the mackems seemingly making any real effort to keep him.
From Newcastle, Laing has represented England at Under 16/17/18/19 levels and made his Sunderland debut way back in 2011 against Wolves, yet hasn’t featured again.
He played 11 games for Wycombe Wanderers two seasons ago but hasn’t been back out on loan since.
Yes despite this lack of progression, Blackburn have already offered Laing a contract and Manchester United and Newcastle United are both said to want the defender to come on trial.
Speaking to a mackem mate of mine, he says Laing was outstanding at youth level but that Gus Poyet doesn’t apparently rate him.
With O’Shea and Brown turning 34 and 35 respectively next season, it would seem strange that if Laing has any potential, why would they let him go?
