Pardew Admits Derby Selection Mistakes
When reflecting on the result at St.James’ Park on Sunday, Alan Pardew was honest enough to confess he was having second thoughts about his team selection.
With a number of players returning to action and the match against Benfica less than 72 hours beforehand, the manager had choices to make.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette today, Pardew had this to say;
“That was a tough decision, he (Haidara) is a young boy and I wanted to play a bit of experience, people who I I think know the game and with hindsight, perhaps I should have played him.
I didn’t think he could get through that after Thursday’s match, his first game back, also get the intensity of it.”
I’ve read in places that Jonas didn’t cope very well with Adam Johnson, I didn’t think he did too badly but I do think that if he’d played in front of Haidara we”d have had a much more fluid and natural partnership on that side, going forward and back.
What do you think?
