Newcastle Linked With Replacement For Krul
There were rumours in the summer of Newcastle targeting goalkeepers as potential replacements for Tim Krul, with PSV’s Jeroen Zoet the most heavily linked.
Now there are reports that Newcastle are supposedly interested in Swiss international, Yann Sommer, who currently plays for FC Basel.
The 24 year old is currently on a five year contract which runs out in June 2015 but the Swiss club are claimed to be keen to sell Sommer this January as he has refused to sign an extension.
Newcastle are credited with interest due to fears that Krul could be a target for other clubs in the January window, while there could be competition from Tottenham who are looking to recruit competition for Hugo Lloris as 42 year old Brad Friedel comes to the end of his career.
While Tim Krul has always expressed no wish to move form St.James’ Park, if United were keen to cash in then Newcastle’s lack of ambition may be enough to drive him out as happened with Shay Given before him.
