Jonas Gutierrez Transfer In January Gathers Pace

A Jonas Gutierrez transfer in January is now looking ever more likely.

The Argentinian winger didn’t even make the bench for the FA Cup defeat to Cardiff.

A bizarre season for the once automatic first choice player has seen Jonas spend a significant amount of time in Argentina for personal reasons, then recently it was reported that if he made a number of appearances on top of his current total he would be entitled to a new contract.

With Gutierrez’ non-appearance yesterday despite recent matches for the Under 21s as an overage player, it doesn’t exactly improve the picture for any long-term Newcastle future.

Norwich are one of the clubs said by The Mirror, amongst others, to be interested and as one of United top wage earners who is totally out of favour, you would imagine that Mike Ashley will be desperate to get him off the books.

Other players such as Sylvain Marveaux and Steven Taylor are said to be in a similar position and the Geordie defender’s display yesterday won’t have done him any favours either.

While no doubt Newcastle would prefer to get a fee for Jonas and move on, the more likely outcome would appear to be Gutierrez heading out on loan with the potential of a future transfer.
